Hi,My family of 4 are interested in relocating from Anchorage, Alaska to Holland to be closer to our Michigan family. What is the job market like down there? Also, do you suggest specific neighborhoods for a younger family?

A:Thank you for your interest in the City of Holland!  Relocation is a big decision and we are happy you are considering the City of Holland, although we are not surprised – Forbes just voted Holland as one of “America’s Prettiest Towns” and people love living here!

Holland has so much to offer to all ages, as you can see on the enjoyhollandmichigan website.  Other websites that give more information about Holland are:  Downtown Holland (located in the City of Holland) and Holland, Michigan (Holland Convention and Visitors Bureau – giving information about the Holland area in general and information about relocation).

Holland offers many job and career options from small business to large organizations – depending on your area of expertise.  Some of the larger well-known names in the area include Herman Miller, Haworth, Johnson Controls, Gentex and LG.  Many people also commute to Grand Rapids which is an approximately 20 mile commute.  The current unemployment rates in the City is approximately 6.5%, lower than the national average.   You can of course check out current job openings by searching on several job and career websites, or Michigan Works.

All the neighborhoods in the City of Holland have their own charm and individuality.  I suggest reading the neighborhoods page on the enjoyhollandmichigan website to view all the different neighborhoods listed – they offer detail about what’s in and around that specific neighborhood, as well as a map of the neighborhood.  This should help you find what best fits your younger family.

I hope this information is helpful to you in making your future decisions and we hope you choose Holland as a new home for your family.
